In alternate history, the “point of divergence” is the point where an alternate timeline (“ATL”) splits off from the original timeline (“OTL”). There is a very simple point of divergence for this project: avoid the Korean War. This, of course, would have huge effects on geopolitics, on the lives of people not killed in the war, their families, basically everyone in Korea, on the Cold War generally, and we’re just going to ignore all of that nonsense to focus on a niche computer industry difference.
